Six Short Poems
By Karen Bressner
The Sun
The sun never gets too weary
to rise
every day
Shining
as well as it can
Even on a cold day
Or a day saddened
by human folly
When clouds are present,
the sun still provides daylight.
Florida Haiku
This tropical land
woos me by sending flowers
'most every day
Not Alone
When friends are not around,
the birds are my companions
and the flowers
and the trees;
the breezes
the earth
A mutual love
Morning Ritual
My very first act
upon awakening
is to look at the garden
Checking for new growth,
new blossoms
ripening fruits and vegetables
Surprises
from Mother Nature
After this ritual,
I know it will be
a good day.
Herbs
Everyone should have
an herb garden
For when you're feeling low
Just pluck a leaf;
the aroma
will enrich you
A miracle
to uplift you
Angels' Gifts
My favorite plants
in the garden
are those few which
I did not place there myself.
Like when I find periwinkle
beginning "spontaneously"
or a passion-flower vine
