My Mother's Flower Garden

My Mother had a Garden, of Flowers so lovely to see
She would point to each, as she named them off for me
"Here are many Roses in colors so vibrant and bright
This one is a Narcissus, it only blooms at night"

"Now here we have some pansies, each with a happy face
I planted a little bleeding heart, in this extra space
Over here are tulips that blossom every spring
They push up from the sod and much joy they bring"

"Larkspurs here are growing tall, they add beauty of their own
Next to them are peonies, a flower that's well known"
On each side of  the driveway, flowers that began with the letter "P"
I never can remember the name, it sort of aggravates me

All these flowers are delightful, and very pretty to see
But nothing can compare with lilac blossoms in a tree
Their very fragrant aroma and colors ever so keen
Are a welcomed sight each year, when winter turns to spring

I see my Mother's Garden as though it were yesterday
Also, flowers by the house in a spot out of the way
Lovely little blue bells or gladiolas next to a tree
All the flowers were bright and beautiful to me

So plant some seeds or bulbs, make a garden of flowers bright
Be sure to plant the ones, that bloom both day and night
Their fragrance will be carried by a gentle swirling breeze
Passing through the neighborhood, with splendor and with ease
