The Big Field: a Child's Year Under the Southern Cross
by Anne Morddel
Nature's seasonal changes in the southern hemisphere, as observed in
plants, birds, and insects native to the Atlantic Rainforest in
southern Brazil are described, month by month, through the eyes of a
child whose grandmother teaches a love of nature through simple play
and activities.
The Big Field is a colorful,
cheerful exploration of the seasons. The beautiful illustrations by the
author reflect the playful text. It is an excellent way to teach
northern hemisphere children about southern hemisphere seasons. In an
educational subplot, we learn what happens in the field Granny forgets
to plough.

"First find the Southern Cross in the sky. It points south. If you can find that, you'll never be lost."
That's what my Granny says.
